28th:  Projected Image Competition #6  First time at Harrow and new to the circuit Mike Lurie judged last night’s competition.

In the Beginners, 20 plus the extra point went to Eric Everatt for “The Lock”;  Eric also scored 18 for “I Am Not Coming Down”. Alice Kass scored 19 for “Lands End” and 18 for “Rice Paper Butterfly”; Paul Liu also Scored 18 for “Nila Patel”.

Open:  Gerald Michael won with his portrait of “Hannah”.  19s were scored by Ron Churchill for “Hooves” and Dave Martin for “Materialism or Preservation.  There were several 18s and all the high scoring images may be seen on our Flickr page.

Nature:   the section was won by Julia Wainwright for “Wary Japanese Macaques;  18s went to Julia for “Common Redshank Calling” and to Judith Gimber for “Pintail”.

21st: “Confessions of a Landscape Photographer” – an Illustrated Talk by Paul Mitchell FRPS – was a thoroughly enjoyable, informative and interesting evening.  Paul was generous with his explanation of technical details and techniques. Thank you Paul.

19th:  Chilterns Championship Day comprising the Chilterns Hundred Members Exhibition as well as the Print and Projected Championships.  Although we did well in both the club events many congratulations go to Julia Wainwright for winning the Best Projected Cup for “Wildebeest Facing Certain Death” – an image which won Julia the Wildlife Photograph of the Year in Wanderlust Magazine (for which she wins a trip to Thailand!).  In the Chiltern Hundreds, Avril Candler’s “First Light First Walk scored 14 (out of 15) and just missed out on an award;  Julia Wainwright’s success continues as she won the Gold Medal in the Chilterns Hundred Members Exhibition with “Male Cheetah Going for the Kill”.

In the Print Championship, Julia scored 14s for “Male Lion Wrestling with Wildebeest” and  “Singing Red Winged Lark” ;  13s were scored by Dave Martin for “Evening Shadows” and John Draper for “Skating Minister.”

14th:  Annual Print and Projected Monochrome Competition – judged by Martin Patten; the evening of prints and projected images was extremely well supported.  The Print Trophy went to Alan Colegrave for “Leah”, Julia Wainwright’s “Hyena Drool” was second and Ron Churchill’s “Alto”, third.  Highly Commended were “The Eye of the Storm” by Gerald Michael, “Nodding Off” and “I Remember” by Avril Candler.  The Projected Trophy was won by Judith Gimber for “Tying the Knot”;  Avril Candler’s “First Light First Walk” took second place with Dave Martin’s “Cacti Flower on Log” in third.  Five images were highly commended.  These and the placed images can be seen on our Flickr page.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the evening and a special thank you to our judge Martin for his erudite comments.

7th:  Quiz Night – run by Ann and Stan McCartin with an excellent Dinner supplied by Sea Pebbles was a thoroughly enjoyable event.  Quiz Mistress Ann McCartin put us through our paces with a not too challenging (for some!) quiz and gave us all a great time.

Many thanks to Ann, ably assisted by Stan.   Thanks too to Jenny King who organised the food and raffle.  We look forward to 2018!
