12th March: Print Competition #3

Last night’s competition, with a substantial number of prints entered, was judged in his inimitable style by Jim Nemer. Jim awarded scores of 18 and above to over sixty percent of the prints and nothing scored less than 16.

Barry Sampson won the Beginners’ section with “Sunset Brighton West Pier”; his “Old Wycombe Park” scored 20, “Tom Dixon Reflections No 1” 19 and “Flamenco Swirl” 18. Simon Shindler’s “Two Old Blokes” scored 20 and “St. Pauls” 18. Congratulations to them both.

Open section: because there were so many prints scoring 18 points, this report is focusing on the 19s and 20s. Julia Wainwright’s “Yellowstone Coyote in Deep Snow” was first of the night; Julia also scored 20 for “Call of the Wild Bald Eagle” (third place) and “White Tailed Eagle Taking Off With a Fish” – “Helping Out in the Kitchen” scored 19. 20s went to Dave Martin’s “The London Aquadrome”, “Chalkhill Blues Roosting 2” and “The Caress” (second place), to Mark Buckley-Sharp for “Sancaklar (7) and Avril Candler’s “Emperor Tamarin Monkey”. 19s went to Ron Churchill for “Nutkin” and “Norman”, Judith Gimber for “Physalis” and “Havanah Street Scene” and John Draper for “Hanging On”, “Woodland” and “Undercover”. Well done all.

It was a remarkably high entry/scoring night so thanks and congratulations to everyone who entered. Special thanks as ever to Jim Nemer.
