8th June: Open Print Competition, judged by Cat Humphries

Very many thanks to Cat Humphries for judging our first and only Print competition of our 20/21 season.  Cat was with us to judge our very first online projected image competition in March 2020 when we were all grappling with technical challenges and Zoom;  so it is really great that Cat has helped us with the equally challenging task of running a print comp!  Our prints were quarantined for an appropriate number of days and delivered to Cat in good time.  The judging was made primarily on the prints she had in front of her rather than the projected images which were shown over Zoom and which Cat not seen in advance of the evening.  The quality of printing, paper choice and composition were all taken into consideration.  We had a bumper entry and thank everyone for participating and making such good prints.

Congratulations go to Mark Buckley-Sharp for his winning print “Collusion of Blocks”;  Avril Candler’s “Anna’s Hummingbird Turning” was second and Julia Wainwright’s “Pensive Ethiopian Man”, third.  Highly commended were Julia’s “Running Red Fox”, Avril’s “Willows in the Mist” and Alan Colegrave’s “Water Babies”.    “Leaves” by John Draper, “Seated Old Man” and “Threshing Time” by Ian Roberts were commended.

1st Place – “Collusion of Blocks” by Mark Buckley-Sharp

Thanks again to Cat for her considered judging – she said it was like being  handed a very exquisite box of chocolates;  it made the judging so much harder!  Once again, many thanks to our print makers, to the print organisers and to everyone who supported the evening.  Here’s to future print evenings!
